My favorite stone in all the world - the Perpignan garnet! These special jewels are trademarked and made only in that area of Catalonia France. Today there are only a dozen makers in all the world that are trained in the multi step process of creating these pieces.
This one I purchased when I visited to Perpignan, the day I went to the exposition / display. I got it from one of the jewelers who make garnet pieces in the style still today, but this one came from their estate section so it is a vintage one, I'm not exactly sure on the date of manufacture as the French don't use dated stamps but it is not new and it is not antique, so... Vintage! : ).
In excellent condition with very little surface wear to the stone. It appears a deep crimson with a vibrant cherry red glow from within. The heart cut with domed rose cut top is bezel set and applied to the wide cigar band which is textured all the way around.
Beautiful to stack, also interesting worn alone. This one really pops. French hallmark for 18k gold with a maker's mark.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Antique box is not included.
MEASUREMENTS:
Size 6 1/2
The heart is 11x10mm and the ring is 5.3mm tall off the finger.
The cigar band is 7mm wide.
It weighs 4.85grams.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Some surface wear but beautiful, legible, lovely to wear. In excellent vintage condition.
