Handsome DEVIL Antique Old Mine Cut DIAMOND Ring 8g 18k Gold FACES Chunky Ring French Art Nouveau Figural 3D
ABOUT:
Exceptional French antique ring with Fun and whimsical 3D design of a devil or mythical creature - what looks like a faun, pan or devil or gargoyle, one at each shoulder. The faces have a beard and what looks like horns and each are smiling.
The faces lead up to the bezel set old mine cut diamond which is a little over half a carat in size. Sturdy figural piece in rich buttery antique 18k gold. The bezel holding the diamond has milgrain detailing. There are additional flourishes on the vertical edges of the ring face and also below the faces. Uncommon and interesting piece! With sparkle added by the diamond.
This one was personalized at one time with faint engraving remaining inside that are hard to make out. I can make out the word "Juin" (French for June) and then what looks like the number 18 perhaps for an 1800s year engraving.
No hallmarks remain which is actually common for French pieces as they are marked in the back and often lost during a sizing or from wear. There is evidence of a sizing on this one. But sold to me from a reputable source in France where the standard is 18k and tested to confirm.
Antique boxes used for staging are not included. Please note the detailed measurements that I always provide, as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures where I am required to show zoomed in detail.
MEASUREMENTS:
Size 6 1/4, a little over. It weighs 7.7 grams of solid 18k gold. The diamond is about 4.9mm diameter and weighs a little over half a carat.
It measures 7.1 mm north south on the finger with a height of 4.9 mm off the finger.
CONDITION:
All my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. Typical antique diamond, this one with quite a few small frosty inclusions that seem to reflect around the stone. There is no damage to the diamond, no chips or nicks, and no dark or carbon inclusions. Just an overall frosty appearance especially under magnification. It still has a nice sparkle and is a very fun piece to wear. A bit of wear to the gold but still very legible. Exceptional gold work. Amazing pure butter patina. He is a handsome little devil.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
